24 Hour Comic 10/8/06: "Warped Sense of Compassion"

BTW, if you want more regular updates, check out my myspace page: www.myspace.com/saziolko because I'm on that more regularly than this blog. I plan on using this for a place to post my art, which is why I haven't had an update since January as the only thing I've done since then in Ninjas In Love (available now!).

Anyway, here's the comic:

Adventures Into The Awesome Featuring Abe Awesome...available tomorrow!!!

Yes, that's right. After many requests and due to my own desire of publishing something new while NINJAS IN LOVE and THE SOLOIST are still in gestation, I have decided to collect all the Abe Awesome stuff I've done these past few months and publish them as a mini comic. Here's the cover image:

It will be on sale tomorrow at Rock Bottom comics and will feature both Abe's first appearance in the 24 hour comic as well as "The BAAAAAAA of Terror", plus an exclusive 2 page story called "Awesome Fan Mail". Be sure to get it while it's hot!

Tentative release date for NINJAS IN LOVE is March, but April is probably more realistic at the moment. THE SOLOIST will be done either by the end of this year or the beginning of next.

Have Direct Access...to ME!

Just recently created a myspace profile. Mainly for fun, but partially because it can do things that this blog cannot. I will still maintain and use this blog for the majority of my creative updates, as well as home for most of my 24 comics and previews. However, I do like myspace because it seems to be much more interactive (sometimes I'm not aware of comments made in this blog until several weeks after they have been posted!)

Go check it out, and if you're on myspace as well, feel free to add me to your friends:

Look for the Abe Awesome story to be finished by the end of this week, as well as a big surprise coming soon! Stay tuned, my three loyal fans!

My Intentions With the Soloist

Something I said on another message board (another crazy Ziolko rant, if you will) that I felt was important enough to reiterate here. I hope maybe it explains not only why The Soloist is so important to me but why I am taking so much time and effort in working on it:

http://www.comixboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=216

"..One of the things I'm really striving for with this book is to really see how many different storytelling techniques I can use with the story. One of the things that bugs the living hell out of me is that not enough comic book creators don't exploit the medium to it's fullest potential. Comic books are unique from almost any other method of entertainment, save maybe animation, that has an audience coming into it with an already established suspension of disbelief. They already accept the fact that people fly, move mountains, and wear ridiculous outfits without public ridicule. This allows us as storytellers to completely manipulate what the reader sees in order to convey whatever emotion or message we want from a moment on the page. I really don't think enough creators realize that and use that to their fullest advantage. I want the Soloist to be something that really takes the medium of comic book storytelling and use it to it's fullest potential. I want it to be something people read and say "Wow, I didn't think a comic book could do that."

"At least, that's my goal. Whether or not I actually reach it is one thing. And maybe that's why it's taking me twice as long to work on it as compared to Test-Tube or Ninjas, which is why I need all these side projects such as Abe Awesome to make me feel productive."

New Abe Awesome Page up!

Check it out below!

Right now I really haven't any new updates on my work, other than I am finally getting back into the groove of working. My goal is still to have all 80+ pages of THE SOLOIST completed by the end of the year, with other possible side projects (like Abe Awesome) if time allows. This is all subject to change as my number one priority is my daughter Emma and my wife Jennifer. All I can say is that I hope you will be patient with me as I adjust to fatherhood and to believe me when I say I will not give any of this up, because I want it too damn much. I am very passionate about what I do and what I feel I have the potential to do. It certainly does help that Jennifer supports me in this, and it also helps that I want Emma to be proud of her comic book creating father.

Emma May Ziolko - 8/8/2005

9 lbs and 20 inches.

I would have announced this sooner on my blog but I've been out of the loop for a few weeks, obviously. Both my wife and the baby are doing fine and I feel we are really starting to adjust to being just a couple to a family. Emma's a really beautiful girl and I hope to share some pictures of her sometime but that requires energy and technical know-how that I simply do not posess at this moment. But so far being a dad is awesome, and I really do love my baby girl.

I did recently finish a couple more pages of Abe Awesome which can be seen below, and I plan on taking advantage of my time spent at home working on the Soloist some more (when I'm not playing with Emma, that is), which I hope to complete before the end of the year.

The plan is to now publish the Soloist as a complete piece of work. I am going to look into the possibility of an alternative method of publishing it other than mini comic form, but nothing's been written in stone quite yet. After that I hope to try and get another NINJAS comic done and maybe publish a collected Abe Awesome comic for the convention circuit if I have the time, energy and money to go to any.

In any case, enjoyed the continued Abe Awesome stuff below.
