The Drawbacks of Being a Mini Comic Guy
Is that sometimes you have to prioritize what's most important to you at the moment, and a lot of times it's not comic books.
I hate to do this. It's so typical of most comic book creators, and I wanted to avoid it, but unfortunately since I don't do this as a way to make a living yet, I have to announce a major delay on all my projects. Trying to balance out a full time job, taking care of a pregnant wife, and soon to be taking care of a baby full time while trying to get a mini comic done all by myself by the end of the summer is just kidding myself. I made a commitment to try and get as much output done as possible before the year's end, and it just isn't going to happen. The truth is that I'm exhausted, and it's really hard to put all my energy into a page when there's none to give.
I hate making excuses, but it's the truth. Some nights I simply don't have the energy to work, so putting any sort of deadline on the Soloist is ridiculous. I wanted to be on page 20 by now. I'm just getting started on page 7. There's just so much going on in my life right now that I have to cut back on something. My wife and upcoming child come first. The comic book world is just going to have to be patient and wait a little bit longer for me to light it on fire.
This does not mean I am going to stop working. On the contrary, part of the reason I'm posting this is to assure you that I will continue to work on part 1 of the Soloist whenever I am able to. I am almost 100% positive I can get it done by the end of the year. I am just unable to announce when until I can get a better idea of my pace at this moment, and especially how I'm going to work once baby is here.
To make up for it, I promise to try and do fun 1-2 page stories and post them on this blog to satisfy any cravings for Ziolko comics cuisine. I have a couple Abe Awesome stories I want to tell. And I promise to post any and all progress on the Soloist as soon as I have it.
Thank you for your patience. Again, I'm sorry for the excuses. Who knows? Maybe I'll catch a second win later this week and have part 1 done by the end of July. But for the time being please bare with me and keep your eyes on this blog...and I promise I'll make this book worth the wait.
